Punjab Health Minister Madan Mohan Mittal today said this decision had been taken to create awareness among people about diarrhoea and steps that should be taken to prevent this disease during summers.
Diarrhoea remains an important contributor to childhood deaths in India, being one of the top five causes of death among infants and children (14 per cent), he said.
Guidelines have therefore been issued to all the Civil Surgeons to send medical teams to government schools for imparting health education regarding prevention and treatment of the disease, he said.
