"By rationing LPG cylinders, the government has opened it up for blackmarketing. We would like to emphasise that this is the beginning of the end of subsidy on LPG or of providing them at a reasonable cost. At the same time, the government has legitimised blackmarketing of LPG cylinders. This is loud and clear," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.
He charged the diesel hike is "another deceit and a virtual unleashing of financial terror" on the common man of the country.
Rudy said these decisions have come at a time when inflation is skyrocketing and the country is faced with "mindboggling corruption".
"This government has some enmity with the common people. It does not want to give them any relief. They want to teach the people of this country a lesson. And this is the primary manifesto or agenda of Congress. The poor, farmers, journalists, all will be affected," Rudy said.
Taking digs at the Prime Minister, the BJP leader said the world's most renowned economist Manmohan Singh has taken this "anti-people" decision.
"Taxes on petrol in India are the highest in the world at 51 per cent, Pakistan 37 per cent. Taxes on diesel in this country are 30 per cent, Sri Lanka 20 per cent, Pakistan 15 per cent," Rudy said.
He demanded parties like Trinamool Congress and SP, which are supporting the UPA government, should make their stand clear on these two steps and withdraw support if they do not agree.
