Differently-abled athleteswould get priority in the proposed sports policy of the Karnataka government, Minister for Sports and Fisheries Pramod Madhwarajsaid here today.
He was speaking at an interactive meeting organised by Dakshina Kannada district Working Journalists Union.
Madhwaraj said the sports policy would be formulated covering maximum districts and the last meeting would be held in Belagavi.
A sports policy would involve consent from all the departments, including education. The new policy would be made more attractive and create security for children who take up sports, he said.
The government wanted to adopt a policy to extendgrace marks to students who excel in sports, Madhwaraj said.
The centre had set apart Rs 900 crore for sports inthe country in the last budget while the Karnataka government had sanctioned Rs 145 crore.
Sports activities could not bepromoted within such limited resources and it should at leastbe doubled in the next budget, he added.
