Difficulties of small town surgeons highlighted

The difficulties encountered by small town surgeons in managing laparoscopic surgery in patients of non-traumatic acute abdominal pain and pregnant women was highlighted by Association of Surgeons of India, Assam chapter president Prof Subhash Khanna at 74th Annual Conference of the Association in Hyderabad.
Delivering the prestigious Dr Santok Singh Anand Endowment Lecture at the recently concluded Conference, Prof Khanna explained the feasibility and safety of procedures in such cases, besides the safety measures that need to be implemented while operating on pregnant women, a press release said.
As the pioneer in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical procedures in North East region, Dr Khanna shared his experience of treating such patients with success through his experience of over 20,000 Laparoscopic surgeries done so far since 1992, said a press release here today from Swagat Endolaparoscopic Surgical Research Institute here where he has been rendering his services for several years.
The selection of Gauhati Medical College former Professor of Surgery this year from among the 16,000 members of the Association of Surgeons of India as the first surgeon from the Northeast for the annual oration was an honour for the region, the release said.
