Online restaurant guide Zomato has acquired MaplePOS, a cloud-based point-of-sale product for restaurants for an undisclosed amount and has renamed it to 'Zomato Base'.
This is the first product acquisition by Zomato, the company said.
The Android-based point-of-sale (POS) system offers restaurant features such as menu and inventory management and has a built-in solutions to accept debit and credit cards.
Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said: "There is a lot that can be done if we are able to build a technology platform that connects consumers to restaurants and vice-versa, and we believe that POS system is the first step towards building that platform."
MaplePOS is a great point-of-sale product, and Zomato is excited about the prospect of working with the MaplePOS team to build this further, he added.
MaplePOS was developed by MapleGraph, a company founded in 2011.
"We are excited to partner with Zomato to realise our dream of building the best and most widely adopted restaurant point-of-sale system in the world," MapleGraph Co-Founder and CEO Arun Tangri said.
Started in 2008 by Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, Zomato provides information of over one million restaurants across 22 countries.
