Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today said optimum utilisation of information technology (IT) is inevitable to compete in the global market at a time when the country has entered into a phase of economic transformation, ending elongated political transition.

Speaking at a programme Digital Nepal Conference' organised by the Ministry of Communication and IT here, Oli cautioned that no one will wait for Nepal if it fails to pick up pace in the present dynamic world.

Asserting that information technology is being increasingly used to provide good governance in Nepal, the prime minister said the government has already started e-payment system and digital technology will now be used in the education sector in the country.

Minister for Communication and IT Gokul Baskota said information technology plays a key role in easy service delivery, economic growth and employment generation.

He further said the use of IT would be intensified in agriculture, education, health and tourism sectors by internalising the progress made by neighbouring India and China in this sector.

Underscoring the implementation of the 'Digital Nepal' campaign, IT Secretary Mahendra Man Gurung said it was important to implement the national identity card by the government which could help citizens to avail all state services and facilities with the help of a single identity card.
