In the backdrop of the Hot Strip Mill (HSM) unit facing problems like mill interruption, reduced mill availability, poor techno-economics and technological obsolescence, the project is giving rich dividends to the department for the last couple of months, RSP sources said today.
To tide over the past problems it was decided by the unit to digitise all the mill drives and replace the old automation with a state-of-the-art facility.
Besides replacement of the analog controllers and automation controllers with new digital drives, installation of the new HMI and data acquisition system were also carried out for better drive response and reduced Roughing Cycle time.
The units that extended full support in the project include Electronics and Electrical Services, Power Distribution, Heavy Maintenance (Electrical).
