Dikshit launches financial aid scheme for HIV/AIDS patients

Orphans, destitutes and abandoned children infected with HIV/AIDS will be given an assistance of Rs 2050 per month.

Such children after attaining the age of 18 will be given Rs 1,000.

Dikshit launched the scheme, which was announced in the annual budget, at a function at Maulana Azad Medical College.

She said all efforts would be made to enable the needy get the benefit of the scheme for which "I call upon all the officers, ART centers, NGOs, civil society representatives to help such patients apply for the scheme."

Dikshit also presented cheques amounting to Rs 2050 each to 17 orphan, destitute and abandoned children infected with HIV/AIDS. These children are being looked after by an NGO.

Dikshit also presented cheques of Rs 1000 each to 10 women living with HIV/AIDS and under treatment at ATR centres.

Speaking on the occasion, Dikshit said about 50 per cent people living with HIV/AIDS in Delhi are from very poor socio-economic background.
