At a meeting with top officials of various agencies concerned, Health Minister A K Walia particularly asked the civic agencies to carry out anti-larva spray in their respective areas.

He said sharp increase in mosquito breeding has been noticed in a number of localities as per the field survey carried out by Directorate of National Vector Borne Diseases and the public health departments of the local bodies.

The meeting was called to review preparedness to control and manage dengue especially in view of the monsoon season during which mosquito breeding goes up.

The Minister said field surveys found mosquito breeding in more than 12,000 premises in the last four months as compared to 7,653 premises last year.

"Although the number of dengue cases reported so far is almost same compared to last year yet there is a strong need to be cautious keeping in view the growing incidence of mosquito breeding," he said.

Walia also called upon citizens to join hands with the government agencies in preventing spread of dengue.
