Dikshit raised the issues at the first meeting of the Security Commission of Delhi which was set up last year at the direction of the Home Ministry following a Supreme Court order, sources said.
The meeting of the Security Commission, chaired by Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna, reviewed the entire security scenario in the city and identified certain "weak areas" which need attention.
Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta briefed the meeting about the prevailing law and order situation vis-a-vis the level of prepardness to deal with any eventualities.
He presented various statistics and claimed that crime rate has gone down to a great extent in the last couple of years but Dikshit was not impressed with the figures and said there has been a growing feeling of "insecurity" among women and police needs to address it seriously.
The Chief Minister also suggested initiating public awareness programme to educate people about necessary precaution as well as assistance needed from the citizens, sources said.
Holding that Delhi has been a prime target of the terror groups, Dikshit as well as leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly V K Malhotra sought installation of adequate numbers of CCTV cameras in all markets and important locations.
In this regard, Malhotra suggested that the MLA and MP Local Area Development funds should be allowed to utilise for installation of CCTV cameras in their respective constituencies. MORE
