Former Gujarat minister and a prominent co-operative leader Dileep Sanghani has been elected as the new chairman of the Gujarat State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd, popularly known as GUJCOMASOL.
While the board members elected Sanghani as the chairman, BJP MLA Govind Parmar has been elected as vice chairman of this major co-operative sector body, which was considered as a stronghold of Congress until the ouster of former chairman Natwarlal Patel in April following a Supreme Court order.
Both Sanghani, who is also the chairman of National Federation of State Cooperative Banks, and Parmar were elected unopposed at a meeting held here, said deputy collector Gaurav Prajapati, who served as the presiding officer for this polls.
"The new board of GUJCOMASOL, having 31 elected directors and two government nominees, were constituted following an election last month. Today, Sanghani and Parmar has been elected unopposed as its chairman and vice chairman respectively. They were elected unopposed," Prajapati said.
After assuming the office, Sanghani said the Federation will work to double the income of farmers.
"Our focus would be to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream to double farmers' income by ensuring more production and also through food processing" he told reporters at Gandhinagar.
As per its official website, GUJCOMASOL provides fertilizers, seeds and pesticides to the farmers through its cooperative channel across the state. The Federation is also involved in procuring, processing and selling agricultural produces. It also operates rice and pulse mills.
