The North Delhi civic body has requested Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to direct the city government to "immediately release" funds amounting to Rs 1,232 crore, which it claimed to be dues as per the recommendations of the fourth Delhi Finance Commission.
In a letter to Jung, Leader of the House in North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), V P Pandey, said the dues claims of the civic body is for education, basic tax assignments/ global share, maintenance of school buildings, maintenance of capital assets, and municipal reforms from financial year 2012-13 to 2016-17.
The funds are to be paid by the Delhi government from its revenue income as share of the corporations under provisions of Section 107A of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, he said.
"Since these funds are a share from the revenue income, the Delhi government is constitutionally bound to release the amount, which has been withheld since 2012-13," Pandey said.
The three BJP-ruled municipal corporations have been demanding Delhi government to release its dues as per the recommendations of 4th DFC recommendations which are yet to be implemented.
