Nagaland will be connected with Delhi from April 15 through a daily flight via Kolkata, Minister for Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said today.
Addressing the inaugural session of 64th plenary meeting of North-Eastern Council (NEC) here, Singh said the new daily return flight from Delhi to Dimapur in Nagaland via Kolkata will start from April 15.
Another daily return flight from Kolkata to Silchar was resumed from March 20, he said.
Admitting that air connectivity has always been an issue for the North Eastern Region, the Minister said three hangers have been constructed and made functional by the Airport Authority of India in Guwahati with NEC support and hoped that Guwahati airport would soon become a regional hub for air connectivity.
The meeting was attended by Governors and Chief Ministers of North Eastern States, senior officers from state governments, several Union Ministries besides others.
Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Moodi attaches a great deal of importance to the development of the North East and accordingly he has advised all his colleagues to visit the region and personally monitor the implementation of their Ministry's schemes and programmes in the region for understanding the issues concerning each of the states.
