Director Agri among 85 officials found absent in checking

As many as 85 government officials including Director of Agriculture department were found absent in a surprise inspection conducted on the directions of Punjab government.
In a surprise inspection at the office of Director Agriculture and Punjab Seed Corporation here on the directions of Chief Secretary, 85 officials including Mangal Singh, Director of Agriculture were found absent, an official spokesman said.
The other absentees included five Joint Directors were Nirankar Singh, Kawaljit Singh, Dev Raj Kalia, Sarabjit Singh and Rajneesh Chander Mehta, he said.
Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal has directed Financial Commissioner (Development) to seek explanation form absentee officials and take necessary action within seven days.
In a similar exercise, 212 revenue officials posted in tehsil offices were also found absent across the state.
Taking serious note of the absenteeism of officials in tehsil offices of the state, Kaushal asked Financial Commissioner (Revenue) to take strict action against them to ensure punctuality and discipline, the spokesman said.
The surprise checking is part of the ongoing campaign initiated by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to ensure punctuality in the government offices to provide better and efficient services to people.
