Police today arrested a director of a leading private school of Ghaziabad for charging increased fee from parents despite an order against this.
"We have arrested Ratan Beer Singh under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and Section 384 (punishment for extortion) of the IPC at Siyani Gate police station," Superintendent of Police (city), Shiv Hari Meena told PTI.
Meena also said that FIRs under these sections of the IPC have also been registered against the manager and chairman of the school.
District Magistrate SVS Ranga Rao, had in an order few days back restrained schools in Ghaziabad from hiking fees. The DM had also set up a committee to look into the issue.
The order came after parents staged a protest in the city against the fee hike imposed by several private schools here.
Some parents today approached Rao today, and told him that despite the order, the private school had hiked the fees by up to 40 per cent, whereupon Rao asked Education Officer, Dr Lalmani Mishra to lodge an FIR against the school director, manager and chairman.
After the director's arrest, the district magistrate has recommended from Meerut Mandal Commissioner to cancel the NOCs of this school, which has three branches in Ghaziabad, at Meerut Road, Vaishali and Dasna.
