Amit Trivedi's last three soundtracks impressed critics but the movies failed at the box office and filmmaker Vikas Bahl feels the directors did not push the music forward.
Trivedi composed for "Fitoor", Bahl's "Shaandaar", and Anurag Kashyap's "Bombay Velvet".
While the music was praised by the critics, all the three films failed to do good business at the box office.
When asked if it important for a film to do well for its music to get the due recognition, Trivedi told reporters, "'Bombay Velvet' was all jazz, the music was an integral part of the screenplay. So if anything had to work, everything had to work for it to be a hit. If the film would've worked, the music would've worked too."
To this, the "Shaandaar" helmer said, "Trivedi has given good music in these films, it was us who didn't let the music go forward. This is the director's fault."
The "Dev D" composer quipped, "I didn't want to say this but you said it."
They were speaking at the launch of "Ikk Kudi" song from "Udta Punjab".
Bahl, who has co-produced the Abhishek Chaubey-directed movie through Phantom Films, said the movie ill feature one of the best works of the from the music director.
"I think music of this film is Trivedi's best. Sometimes it happens you work extremely hard on something and the result is waiting for you one day. This is that. It is by far his best work. We all are fans of Trivedi," Bahl said.
"I think he did a great job in music with 'Bombay Velvet,' 'Shaandaar,'and Fitoor. But this (Udta Punjab) is a sixer," the filmmaker added.
Recently Anurag Kashyap said he takes full responsibility for the failure of "Bombay Velvet".
When asked about this, The "Queen" director, who had co-produced the film said, "I am saying not him but I am responsible for the failure."
"Udta Punjab" is scheduled to release on June 17.
