Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the city government has been taking all possible measures to ensure that people do not suffer due to power cuts especially during summer.

Laying the foundation stone for the 53rd grid sub-station of BYPL in Karol Bagh which would be built at a cost of Rs 33 crore, she said reforms in the power sector in the capital have rated the "best and most successful".

"The government has instructed discoms to ensure uninterrupted power supply during summer season as the city government is keen to offer a tension-free summer to all its citizens," she said.

The next generation fully automatic 33/11 KV grid station is being constructed in a densely populated locality that would ensure uninterrupted power supply.

The sub-station will incorporate the latest distribution technology and stringent benchmarks including state-of-the-art numerical relay for protection. The initial capacity will be 50 MVA which could be further increased by 25 MVA depending on the power growth of the area, officials said.

Dikshit said last few years have witnessed tremendous development in the Karol Bagh area resulting in increase in power consumption.
