Dist Child Protection Officer, Dir of short stay home arrested

Two persons including a government official, were arrested today in connection with alleged sexual torture of a minor girl in a short stay home in Odisha's Balasore district, the police said.
Itishree Mahapatra, District Child Protection Officer of Balasore and Sukanti Parida, Director of a short stay home were arrested by Sahadevkhunta Police for alleged inaction and suppression fact about the incident, they said.
The matter had been taken up by some activists with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on whose direction an inquiry was conducted by the district Collector of Balasore and two officials including Itishree Mahapatra were suspended on May 27, district administrative officials said.
Collector Sanatan Mallik had also ordered the sealing of two short stay homes, stoppage of all aid to them and shifting of the inmates elsewhere.
