Distribution of Satyamev Jayate Water Cup 2017 awards on Aug 6
Press Trust of India Pune Filmmaker Kiran Rao, the co-founder of Paani Foundation, today said her "perspective" on many things changed after she saw people in rural areas coming together to make Maharashtra drought-free through 'Satyamev Jayate Water Cup'.
Rao, wife of actor Aamir Khan who has founded the not-for-profit company, was here to share the details of Satyamev Jayate Water Cup 2017 awards, scheduled to be distributed here on August 6.
"The entire success of 'Paani Foundation' rested on the fact that people came together to solve their problem of water scarcity through this people's movement," she said.
Rao said during her travel to various zones in the state, she saw people's involvement in solving the problems.
"We have been suffering for so many years and that travel for 45 days during the water cup, opened my heart and mind. This travel opened up my heart and showed me how people are capable of great resilience, tenacity and so much love and warmth. I was so inspired to see the incredible energy and positivity in people that changed my perspective on many things," she added.
Rao said she never lived in a village, but through this water cup, she experienced village life first hand.
A total of 1300 villages from 30 talukas took part in the second edition of Satyamev Jayate Water Cup competition.
"The award distribution of the competition will be held at the hands of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in Pune on August 6," said, Satyajit Bhatkal, chief executive officer of the foundation.
In its first edition, the water conservation initiative under Satyamev Jayate Water Cup was implemented in three talukas.
