District admin trying for peaceful surrender by sect leader

The district administration is trying for peaceful surrender by Rohtak-based sect leader Rampal against whom non-bailable warrants had been issued by Punjab and Haryana High Court in a case of vandalism at Hisar court by his followers, police said here today.
Talks between the action committee of Satlok Ashram and the district administration are going on for the surrender of the sect leader, Hisar SP Satendar Kumar Gupta said.
"Hisar district administration is trying for peaceful surrender by Rampal (head of Satlok Ashram)," Gupta said.
"We have requisitioned 3,500 cops from para-military forces to face any untoward situation," he said.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on November 5 had issued non-bailable warrants against Rampal and Rashtriya Samaj Seva Committee president Ram Kunwar Dhaka owing to their failure to appear before the court in the ongoing vandalism case.
A division bench of the court comprising Justices M Jeyapaul and Lisa Gill, had rejected the pleas of the duo through their counsels and directed the Haryana's Home Secretary and DGP to ensure that they would be present in the court on the next hearing on November 10.

In the meantime, the congregation continued in the Ashram and the armed followers are keeping round-the-clock vigil by cordoning off the area of upto one kilometre.

Rampal is head of Satlok Ashram near Rohtak. Dhaka and members of his organisation and followers of Rampal had laid siege to the Hisar court premises three months back during the trial of a case involving the sect leader.
The sect leader's followers had allegedly indulged in vandalism in the court when Rampal had gone there to appear in a 2006 murder conspiracy case, which was conducted by video conferencing.
Later on, the high court had taken suo moto notice of the incident and summoned the sect leader.
