The lawyers of bar associations of six trial courts -- Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Karkardooma, Rohini, Saket and Dwarka -- today assembled at the Patiala House courts premises and marched towards the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The protesting advocates were stopped by the police at the India Gate roundabout which halted the traffic on the arterial road.
Advocate R K Wadhwa, Chairman of coordination committee of all district courts bar associations, said that the strike was successful in all the six courts and they have decided to continue it till April 28.
He also said that the lawyers' body has also proposed to hold a protest march to the Parliament on April 28.
Due to the strike against the delay in tabling in Parliament an amended bill to enhance pecuniary jurisdiction of trial courts, judicial work in all district courts today came to a halt for the second consecutive day.
The lawyers' body said the full bench of Delhi High Court had recommended to the central government that pecuniary jurisdiction be enhanced from the existing Rs 20 lakh to Rs 2 crore, but nothing has been done till date.
