District home guards sends relief materials by IAF aircraft

The Coimbatore District Home Guards today sent 1.5 tonnes of relief materials to Chennai by an IAF Aircraft.
A District Home Guards release claimed this was the first time in the history of the Tamil Nadu Home Guards that a unit is sending such materials by IAF aircraft.
The District Home Guards in association with Sumangali Jewellers had collected the materials including 15,000 chapattis, biscuits, bread, jam, torch lights, sanitary napkins, plastic mats, medicines, besides other essentials.
The District Home Guards along with India Post had collected three truck loads of materials, which were handed over to the ADGP Home Guards AK Vishwanathan and Inspector General K Periaiah, who were actively involved in distributing relief materials at Chennai, a release from home guards said.
The Chennai team of Home Guards under the supervision of the ADGP and IG had fed about two lakh people in the last three and half days.

Meanwhile, The SNR Son Charitable Trust and its affiliated institutions at Coimbatore have sent nearly 17 tonnes of food articles, water, clothes and medicines to the flood-affected areas in Chennai.
Under its Helping Chennai People project, the trust has sent five vehicles to Chennai for direct distribution to the people, along with a medical team.
The team, comprising five doctors,10 nursing staff and 10 nursing assistants from Sri Ramakrishna Hospital along with five faculty and 45 NCC and NSS volunteers, are camping at Meenakshi College in Chennai.
The team will hold special medical camps for one week there, the release said.
Meanwhile, 50 persons from Isha Foundation here and hundred of volunteers across the country from affiliated organisations are working in the flood-affected areas of Chennai, Cuddalore and Vizhupura areas.
Mobile hospitals are on the move in the areas, where they are distributing 'nilavembu' mixture to nearly eight lakh to 10 lakh affected people, a foundation release said.
Eight to 10 special medical camps were being held daily. There are doctors and helping staff not only from Tamil Nadu but also from neighbouring states.
The volunteers are also distributing essential articles like water, napkin for children and women, clothes for all, toothpaste, soaps, biscuits, rugs and bedsheets.
For the last three days, at least 35,000 affected persons have been benefited from the service, the release claimed.
