Twelve persons, including a district panchayat member, were today arrested for pelting stones at police and setting a government bus on fire during a protest seeking the removal of Ballia police station SHO.
District panchayat member Nagendra Bahadur Singh was leading the protest seeking removal of SHO Ajay Rai for allegedly misbehaving with students, police sources said.
When the protesters were stopped from entering the police station, they pelted stones and clashed with policemen, an officer said, adding they also set a roadways bus afire.
Later, police resorted to lathicharge to disperse them.
A total of 12 persons, including Singh, has been arrested in this connection.
