With IMD predicting good rainfall in the ensuing monsoon, Odisha government today asked district authorities to submit final report in the next 10 days about their requirements to deal with the situation.
"We were taking stock of the preparedness for the monsoon in all the 30 districts. We have asked the district administrations to see if there are any loopholes in preparedness and report to us in 10 days after making the proper arrangements," said special relief commissioner P K Mohapatra.
He had convened a pre-monsoon preparatory meeting which was attended by additional district magistrates and emergency officers of all the districts, ODRAF and fire brigade officials. "34 items in the agenda were discussed at the meeting," Mohapatra said.
"About 292 fire stations across the state will be on alert with their equipment ready," said Sukant Kumar Sethi, Chief Fire Officer.
Satyajit Mohanty, Additional DGP (HQ), said, "We are adding 10 more ODRAF units to the existing 10 thereby ensuring deployment of one dedicated unit for one or two districts."
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar forecast that monsoon rains will occur in Odisha a few days after it hits Kerala in the next 3-4 days.
Pre-monsoon rains have already started in several parts of the state and the state capital city today recorded 60 mm of rains.
