Arvind Kejriwal government's order for filing an FIR in the alleged manipulation of gas prices today triggered diverse reactions with Congress cautioning against a probe inspired by "political vendetta" while CPI welcomed the decision.
Echoing India Inc's views, UB Group chairman Vijay Mallya said there should be no "witch-hunt" against industrialists, noting that the Delhi Chief Minister was pursuing "unconventional methods" to attain his objectives.
The reactions came after the Delhi government ordered filing of an FIR against Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily, former Union minister and Congress leader Murli Deora and RIL chief Mukesh Ambani for alleged collusion in the hike in prices of natural gas from KG basin.
Hitting back, Moily said that fixing of the prices of petroleum products was done as per expert advice and that he sympathises with Kejriwal's "ignorance".
"I think I should sympathise with his ignorance. He should know how the government functions, how these things are done ... You should know that I took special interest to ensure that CNG and PNG prices were reduced," Moily said.
Samajwadi Party, which gives outside support to the UPA government, slammed Kejriwal, saying it was all a "drama" to hide inefficiency and attain "political martyrdom".
