These diversified products are being showcased under a programme implemented by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and jointly sponsored by India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd (IIFCL) and National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) under their CSR initiative.
Master trainers and designers were engaged for imparting three months training in all the eight identified pockets of the northeast and developing market driven products.
In most of the products, the creators have tried to infuse some of the Assamese traditional themes like 'save rhino campaign', ancient monuments of Assam like the 18th century amphitheatre Rang Ghar, tea leaves and tea gardens etc.
"It was a great journey for these 150 tribal women who got trained weaving on modern looms for upgrade of handloom with infusion of design inputs from expert designers and master crafts persons. The fabrics and products developed by them are being displayed at IITF before 4.9 million prospective buyers. Thanks to NSTFDC-IIFCL for supporting this initiative," he told
