Diwali celebrated in Bihar
Press Trust of India Patna Undeterred by the Patna serial blasts, the people of Bihar today celebrated the Diwali with great fervour and joy amid elaborate security arrangements in the state.
People began celebrations of the festival of lights by illuminating their houses with variety of colourful lights.
As the dusk set on, the devouts performed pujas in their houses to welcome the Goddess Laxmi and prayed for peace and prosperity for their respected families and the state.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lit 'diya' (earthen lamp) at his official residence - 1, Anne Marge in the state capital - to lead the people in celebrations of Diwali.
The BJP leaders, however, refrained from celebrating the festival with usual gusto with a senior leader and former minister Giriraj Singh saying that he will not celebrate Diwali to mourn the death of six people in serial blasts in the state capital a week ago.
