Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) is providing official development assistance (ODA) loan for the renovation work.
During a meeting, the Board also approved improvement and revamping of existing water supply, transmission and distribution network of Nangloi water treatment plant at a cost of Rs 652.32 crore.
Apart from this, DJB would set up consumer care centres at Greater Kailash-I and Jal Sadan office complexes at a cost of Rs 6.15 crore in order to improve consumer complaints redressal system and to provide consumer friendly environment.
The project would be completed within 15 months, an official statement said.
The Chandrawal plant was constructed in 1930 and the project include improvement of WTP, installation of SCADA, new transmission mains and distribution pipes and replacement of old ones, creation of district metering areas.
"The ultimate objective of the project is to achieve equitable and continuous water distribution in the project area by improving the water supply network. ... The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1,704 crore for a period of 10 years," the statement said.

In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is also the Chairman of DJB, approval of operation and maintenance of Haiderpur recycling plant was sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 18.62 crore for a period of five years.
For efficient sewage management in unauthorised colonies in Ganesh Nagar, Pandav Nagar, the Board has decided laying of HDPE internal sewer lines in the colonies. The scheme would benefit 19,000 people.
To improve environmental and social conditions, the DJB has approved to provide sewerage facility in Mohan Garden group of colonies within three years. (More)
