A 9.1 Million Litres (ML) capacity UGR will be constructed at Bijwasan while a 5.8 ML capacity UGR will be constructed at Rajokari and each reservoir will also have a booster pumping station, a senior DJB official said.
At present both Bijwasan and Rajokari areas are facing acute water crunch and do not have piped water supply.
"DJB's tankers supply water to meet the requirements of citizens. But water supply is not optimum. Therefore, DJB will not wait for completion of construction of UGRs to extend piped water supply to these areas.
The project will benefit a population of about 1 lakh people in the command areas of the Bijwasan UGR which consists of Shahabad Mohammadpur, Bijwasan, Kapashera, Samalka, Samalka Extension, Salapur Khera etc., and a population of about 75,000 people in the command areas of Rajokari, Airforce Camp, Rangpuri, Extended Vasant Kunj etc.
"As per its mandate, Delhi Jal Board is bringing more areas into its water and wastewater network. The DJB has set the target of extending water supply in 250 colonies by the end of this financial year," DJB Vice Chairman Dinesh Mohania said.
