DMDK accepts Ramachandran's resignation
Press Trust of India Chennai Two days after DMDK senior leader Panrutty S Ramachandran offered to quit the party, actor-politician Vijayakant's party today accepted his resignation and decided to do away with the key post held by the veteran leader.
An urgently convened meeting of DMDK executive chaired by Vijayakant adopted a resolution in this regard.
Ramachandran had sent a letter to party founder Vijayakant and the Executive "unanimously" approved his resignation as DMDK Presidium Chairman.
The members also decided to scrap the post from the party.
Ramachandran, also the Deputy Leader of the DMDK Legislature, had resigned as Alandur MLA and from party posts on December 10, citing health reasons.
Among others, the Executive criticised the ruling AIADMK on law and order fronts. It also gave Vijayakant the right to decide on the strategy, including firming up alliances for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
