Rivalry between DMK and AIADMK, the two political parties of Tamil Nadu, came to the fore in Rajya Sabha today when their members exchanged sharp words against each other.
Trouble started when Tiruchi Siva (DMK) said he was unaware about the current functioning of the Transgender Welfare Board which was set up during the DMK regime in 2008.
Siva, while moving a private members' bill that seeks to formulate a comprehensive national policy for transgenders, said Tamil Nadu was the first state in the country to establish such an entity for the betterment of the transgenders.
"However, I don't know how that is functioning now," he said.
This angered Navaneethakrishnan (AIADMK), who labelled it as "ignorance" on the part of the DMK leader.
The word "ignorance" infuriated Siva who started attacking the state government and said the Board was "not functioning".
"I have been insulted," he said urging E M S Natchiappan, who was in the Chair, to expunge the word otherwise he would not proceed further. Natchiappan assured Siva that the matter would be looked into.
Amid exchange between the two leaders, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said it was the duty of the members to maintain the decorum of the House.
