The party said agriculture had taken a "hit" with water not being released from Mettur Dam which had rendered many in the farm sector jobless even as power load-shedding had come to haunt the people of the state.

"Opposition parties and media face defamation cases if they point out the flaws," a DMK headquarters statement here said.

Ruling AIADMK had filed such cases against party leaders M Karunanidhi and his son M K Stalin, Opposition leader Vijaykant and PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss besides some media houses.

Other issues including law and order and inter-state river water issues were also affecting the people and "condemning these, all the local units are directed to stage peaceful and democratic protests which should also highlight local issues," the party said.
