DMK President M Karunanidhi today accused the AIADMK of scuttling electoral alliances among Opposition parties for the next year's assembly elections and attempting to divide and rule political rivals.
"They (AIADMK) are careful in ensuring that there is no unity among Opposition parties and they purchase some key functionaries from each party," he claimed in a statement here.
"Through them (who were purchased), they (AIADMK ) are making divide and rule attempts to see that there was no electoral understanding among Opposition parties," he said.
Seeking the support of cadres for party Treasurer and son Stalin's state-wide tour christened "Namakku Naame" beginning on September 20 with the aim of engaging with the people, the 91-year old leader said, "Every party worker has the responsibility to make it a success."
In a veiled reference to the home coming of MDMK functionaries to DMK, he said, "Those who had gone in diverse directions have now begun trooping towards us after deciding that the DMK is the hope of Tamil Nadu."
"Only we have more responsibility in the 2016 Assembly elections, you should not forget it, you need not be afraid of conspiracies and the money power of opponents. Our goal is very pure and it will succeed for sure this time round," he told the party cadres.
