Rubbishing the claims of Aam Aadmi Party on additional evidence emerging about 2G spectrum scam showing alleged role of M Karunanidhi, his daughter Kanimozhi and a top state police officer, the DMK chief today said it was "all lies."
"It is all lies, all lies, all lies," the 90-year-old DMK chief told reporters outside his Gopalapuram residence here.
Asked about AAP leader Prashant Bhushan accusing him of "cover-up", Karunanidhi shot back saying if media would ask his arch rival and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa about the ongoing disproportionate case against her in Bangalore.
"There is a disproportionate case happening (in Bangalore). Can you ask questions to those involved in that like this? Can you meet the Chief Minister like this," he asked.
Senior AAP members Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav and others had said in Delhi that recently four new taped conversations had surfaced which "throw more light" on the scam in which Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi has been chargesheeted by the CBI.
According to Bhushan, the tapes contained purported conversation between a top officer of the state police and a senior official in Karunanidhi's office as well as between the police officer and Kanimozhi. The alleged conversations took place between November 2010 and February 2011, when Karunanidhi was the Chief Minister.
AAP had demanded an independent probe into the alleged role played by Karunanidhi and the police officer in "covering up" the scam.
Asked about the prospects of Jayalalithaa becoming Prime Minister if she contests the Lok Sabha polls "on behalf of a Third Front," Karunanidhi quipped he will "be happy if (she) becomes," so.
