Talking to reporters here, party district secretaries V K Velusamy and K Thalapathy said, "the views of Alagiri are unnecessary and did not serve any purpose. Alagiri's criticism of the survey was mala fide and had ulterior motives".
Alagiri, considered a Madurai strongman, had rubbished the survey favouring Stalin for the top post.
He had reportedly referred to DMK's poor performance in last year's Lok Sabha elections under Stalin, where it failed to win a single seat out of the 39 in Tamil Nadu.
Stalin, DMK treasurer had yesterday dismissed Alagiri's remarks in this regard.
"Partymen need not take such persons' views seriously... I don't want to get into a verbal fight. Media may blow up the remarks of frustrated individuals but there is no need for DMK and myself to attach any importance to them," he had said.
"I have been strongly insisting that Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) will be the next Chief Minister. I have never called me a Chief Ministerial candidate and have never nurtured any such thoughts," he had said in a statement in Chennai.
