A day after the DMK president M Karunanidhi ruled out any alliance with Congress for the general polls next year, senior Congress leaders today said the patriarch's reasons for the decision were regrettable.
Talking to reporters here, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B S Gnanadesikan said, "It is for every party to decide to form and not to form an alliance with another party. I cannot comment on that. But, the reasons given by him (Karunanidhi) for the decision is regrettable."
"He has said as if the Congress was responsible for the arrest of MPs A Raja and Kanimozhi (in the 2G case). This is not right. Congress has nothing to do with that," he said.
Commenting on DMK's decision, former Minister of State and senior Congress leader E V K S Elangovan said, "It is a good gift for the Congress workers in Tamil Nadu on the eve of Christmas and New Year."
Speaking to reporters at the airport here, Minister of State for PMO V Narayanasamy said, "It is DMK's decision. I cannot comment on another political party's decision."
Asked about the 2G case as alleged by the DMK patriarch, he said, "I cannot comment on the 2G issue, since the case is in the court."
