The ambitious Phase III project of Delhi Metro will set another pathbreaking precendent with construction of a record number of sharp curves on standard gauge corridor from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Shiv Vihar in East Delhi.
"Due to uneven twists and turns in this 25 kilometers elevated corridor, DMRC is being forced to construct as many as 14 curves on this stretch that passes through very congested areas," a DMRC spokesperson said.
These areas include Trilokpuri, Kalyanwas, Vinod Nagar, I P Extension, Anand Vihar, Karkarduma, Welcome, Seelampur, Jaffrabad and Maujpur.
The Hazrat Nizamuddin-Shiv Vihar corridor is a part of the 59 kilometers long Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor of Phase III covering 40 Metro Stations.
"Curves of less than 300 meters of radius are considered 'sharp curves' in Urban Rail construction. The work of building sharp curves requires great deal of engineering skills and several factors have to be kept in mind while designing special segments/spans at the concerned turn," the spokesperson said.
In 2010, DMRC had constructed sharpest broad gauge curve on its elevated section in Gurgaon near IFFCO Chowk with a radius of 282.05 meters in Phase II.
The phase III of Delhi Metro will cover 140 kms in the national capital.
