Doc, 2 women held for conducting pre-natal sex determination

A doctor and two women touts were arrested in Bundi today by PCPNDT Bureau of Investigation teams for allegedly conducting pre-natal sex determination tests.
Dr Abdul Rahim Ansari (41), a sonologist, along with two women touts, Rukmani Meghwal and Parwati, were arrested from a private ultrasonography centre at Khogate Road in Bundi, Naveen Jain, mission director of state medical and health and Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) said in a release.
A sonography machine along with some documents were also seized, he said.
During investigation, it was found that Rukmani Devi, a nurse at Kota Heart Institute, used to send pregnant women to the ultrasonography centre along with Parwati Panchal, Jain said.
The special team had been keeping an eye on the accused, all residents of Kota and were trying to arrest them.
On the fifth attempt, two persons contacted the accused for pre-natal sex determination test. Of Rs 30,000 demanded by the accused, Rs 15,000 was paid in advance, the official said.

Four teams led by Additional Superintendent of Police of PCPNDT Cell Raghuveer Singh carried out the raid at the centre and arrested the accused.
The role of the proprietors of sonography centre Dr Juned and Idris are also being investigated, he said.
With this, we have busted the biggest gang conducting illegal sex determination tests in Kota division, Jain said.
