'Docedge' to support independent works of young docu makers

Docedge-Kolkata, an international meet between young documentary filmmakers and global production houses is being held here and it features 25 projects by upcoming Asian short filmmakers picked up for mentoring.
Prominent names in the field like Richard Ray Perez, Sundance Institute, USA, Park Heymi, Programming Head, DMZ Doc Fund/fFest, Korea, Richard Ray Perez, Sundance Institute, USA, Joost Daamen, Takahiro Hamano, Producer, NHK Enterprise, Japan and Seokpil Kang, Docs Port Incheon, Korea attended the interface where young docu makers pitched for funds for their films in different format, CEO of Yes Foundation, partner of the film, Prerana Langa, said.
"Docedge is India's most prestigious documentary forum where talented film makers from across India will pitch for funds. A total of 25 projects have been selected for mentoring the makers of the films, each having independent storyline. The projects were shortlisted in a week's time at the Goethe Institute from 150-200 applicants," she told PTI.
"It is very important about how you are going to tell a story, whether it is for a few minutes or for 30 minutes. We are inviting projects, but off course there will be case-by-case study depending on the subject," Perez said.
One of the documentaries screened in the event was '10 metre tower', which talked about the fear lurking in people's mind while jumping from a diving board and how people back out at the last moment.
"Going by the response of the audience here and everywhere, we can say people have same emotional response to same situations," she said.
Heeidi Gronauer, of leading Italian production house EsoDoc, said such collaboration between people of different parts of the world was a good way to understand people having different aims, but with synergy of thoughts.
Heymi, head of the Korean Documentary funding firm, said "Initially I had thought we should only think about promoting Korean documentary film industry. But, gradually it became clear to me that the situation for documentary film makers is same everywhere - India, Japan, South Korea and others - and we must be on each other's side.
