The Special Task Force (STF) today arrested doctor Ajay Shankar Mehta in connection with his alleged involvement in the recruitment of policemen through the scam-tainted MP Professional Board Examination (MPPBE), official sources said.
"Mehta was formally arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) sleuths in connection with the MPPEB scam," a STF official said.
The MPPEB scam involved Pre-Medical Test (PMT), pre-PG test for post-graduate courses in medical colleges, contractual teachers appointments as well as in police recruitments, among others.
The STF had been looking for Mehta, a renowned doctor, for quite sometime and he was formally arrested today for his alleged role in the scam, sources said.
So far, the probe agency has arrested a number of people including four doctors, MPPEB officials, middlemen and a number of impersonators who apppeared in various tests in place of original candidates.
After the scam was exposed, admissions of nearly 1,200 students studying in various medical colleges were cancelled by the Medical Education Department, since they allegedly used unfair means to clear PMT.
