"The state government has suspended Gautam Pandit, the medical officer of Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Hospital in Supela, for allegedly raping a patient on June 19 last year. A suspension order was issued this evening," the officials said.
The action was taken against Pandit as the rape case is under investigation of the state police, the officials said.
Pandit has been suspended under the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification Control and Appeal) Rules 1966, they said.
A 22-year-old student had lodged a police complaint on Wednesday, alleging that when she was admitted to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital after she had met with an accident in June, Pandit and two policemen had raped her.
