The 5-year-old German shepherd named 'IV' received the summons to serve on a Cumberland County judicial panel in New Jersey.
The summons for the jury duty were mailed to her owner Barret Griner IV but were actually addressed to the dog.
"It's kind of comical, you know. To see the actual notice with her name on it. It's pretty funny," Griner said.
The dog's name on her veterinary record appears the same as it does on the summons. Barrett received the summons on Friday.

When Barrett first got the summons he pretty much figured it out how the goof up happened.
His full name is Barrett Griner IV. He uses the roman numeral for four and that is also why he named his dog IV, as in using the letters "I and V" as the canine is female.
Such mix-ups are commonplace, Cumberland County Judiciary Coordinator Dennis Moffa said, adding that this happens especially when roman numerals are involved.
"This happens many times...If you had John Henry IV, sometimes the notice might just say Henry IV," Moffa told the WCAU-TV.
