Domestic air traffic shows healthy growth for April

Domestic air travel demand grew by a healthy 23.33 per cent to 65.59 lakh passengers in April this year as against 53.18 lakh passengers in the same month in 2014, DGCA said today.
Nine domestic carriers together carried 12.41 lakh more passengers in the reporting month helped by the start of the tourist season period, according to the air traffic data for April, released by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation today.
During the period, budget carrier IndiGo maintained its domination in the skies with 37.8 per cent market share while full service carrier Jet Airways excluding its subsidiary JetLite cornered 19.6 market share.
In terms of seat factor, no-frills airline SpiceJet clocked the highest 88.7 per cent load factor in April.
