Car sales continue upward momentum, rise over 15%

Two-wheeler sales up 19%, commercial vehicles sales down 6%

Domestic passenger car sales grew by 15.16% to 1,53,758 units in August this year as compared to 1,33,513 units in the same month of 2013.

According to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), motorcycle sales during the month grew by 14.45% to 9,10,312 units as against 7,95,411 units in August last year.

Total two-wheeler sales in August 2014 grew by 19.22% to 13,45,506 units from 11,28,631 units in the same period of the previous year.

Total sales of commercial vehicles were down by 5.59% to 48,473 units from 51,344 units in the year-ago period, SIAM said.

Total sale of vehicles across categories registered a growth of 17.54% to 16,60,437 units in August 2014 as against 14,12,602 units in the same month of 2013, it added.
