Domestic helps attack housing society, allege maid was beaten

High drama was witnessed at a residential society here today as a large number of domestic helps went on the rampage and threw stones alleging that a maid working there was held captive and beaten up by her employer, who in turn accused her of theft.
The owner of the apartment, Harshita Sethi, had last night accused Zora of stealing cash, police said.
The maid's husband, Babu Khan, along with the police had gone to Sethi's house last night to inquire about Zora, but they were told that she had left, SP (City) Arun Kumar Singh said.
Today, the maid was reportedly found unconscious within the society premises, another police official said.

As the news of the incident spread, family members of Zora and other domestic helps gatecrashed into the society, ransacked the apartment and threw stones alleging that Sethi had held her captive the whole night and beaten her, Singh said.
The members of the residential society managed to save the Sethis from the mob and based on their complaint an FIR has been lodged against those responsible for assaulting the residents and stone pelting, police said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women today claimed that it had received a call seeking help for the domestic help, following which a team was sent help her in registration of an FIR in the case.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said that though the area does not come under their jurisdiction, they could not have ignored the call seeking help.
"On humanitarian ground, we offered all the help required in this case," she said.
