:Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) Wednesday said that domestic operations at the renovated Terminal-1 and the enhancement of the solar power production capacity to 40 MWp would be inaugurated on December 12.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the two mega projects of the CIAL, which had handled one crore passengers in the fiscal year 2017-18.
The international terminal, constructed at a cost of Rs 1100 crore, was opened to international passengers last year.
As there has been a steady growth in the domestic passengers, the renovation work of Terminal-1, which earlier handled international operations, with most modern facilities, was started one and a half years ago, a CIAL release said.
V J Kurian, CIAL Managing Director CIAL said that the domestic aviation market has been witnessing stupendous growth.
"The national Year-On-Year growth in this sector is 18 per cent, whereas CIAL has been experiencing 24 per cent," he said.

As the first fully solar operated airport in the world, CIAL has been internationally acclaimed with various honours, including the 'Champions of the Earth' award constituted by the United Nations.
At present, the total capacity of the solar plants at CIAL is 30 MW.
As Terminal-1 is ready for operation, the production capacity has to be increased to meet the complete power needs of the airport.
"The project to install solar panels on the roof of the car park at Terminal-1 was part of this.
As the airport receives the power from these panels, the total solar power capacity will be raised to 40 MWp. This project is also being commissioned on 12 December", CIAL said.
With the commissioning of the new solar carport for Terminal-1, the total installed capacity of the carports will be 5.1 MWp and it would be able to house 2600 cars, it said.
"Here also, CIAL sets another record as an airport having the largest solar carport in the world, surpassing the Wieze International Airport, Germany, the present record holder, with an installation capacity 4 MWp.
CIALs 5.1 MWp solar carport is the largest solar carport in India, it said.
