Don Bosco's 200 year birth celebrations in Kolkata this week

The bicentenary birth of St John Bosco, founder of Roman Catholic religious institute Salesians of Don Bosco and renowned educator, will be celebrated from Saturday.
Rev Father Angel Fernandez Artime, the tenth successor of St John Bosco, popularly known as Don Bosco, will make his maiden visit to India to attend the three-day-long celebrations, said Nirmol Gomes, the Provincial of Don Bosco Kolkata.
Rector Major Fernandez will attend the South Asia Salesian Family Congress at Don Bosco, Liluah which marks the concluding ceremony of Don Bosco's 200th birthday with the theme of 'One Family, One Mission'.
He will be felicitated by around 1,900 delegates representing 11 groups of the Salesian Family which includes fathers, brothers, sisters, alumni and lay groups of men and women, he said.
The grand finale of the bicentenary celebration is scheduled to be held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on September 28.
Don Bosco was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and educator of the 19th century. Currently there are 12 Don Bosco provinces in India and Sri Lanka including Kolkata.
The worldwide Salesian family has a total of 30 affiliated groups working for poor and marginalised youth.
