Don's threat to lawyer; HC asks Centre to assess & respond
Press Trust of India New Delhi The Delhi High Court today asked the Centre to file a report after assessing the feedbacks of city police and other agencies on alleged threat perception of a lawyer who has been defending terror suspects including Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal.
Delhi-based lawyer M S Khan has alleged he recevied threat calls and SMSes from underworld don Ravi Pujari that he and his family would be harmed if he does not disengage himself from pursuing various terror cases.
Special Cell of Delhi police, in its report to Justice Veena Birbal, said it has assessed the situation and has found that the calls and SMSes emanated from offshore locations.
On being told that Intelligence Bureau has also been roped in, the bench asked the counsel for the Union Home Ministry to file a status report within two weeks after considering the preliminary findings of Delhi police and other security agencies.
Meanwhile, police told the court that they are regularly visiting the lawyer's residence to ensure his and family members' safety.
