"If you are a buddhist, it should not be because of your parent were. That must not be our reason to become a Buddhist. We must not be carried away with blind faith but we must understand the framework of Buddhism and teaching of Buddha," he said while delivering a religious discourse here.
The Dalai Lama, who was speaking on "The three principal aspects of the path", asked his followers to become a "21st century" Buddhist.
During the discourse, the spiritual leader stressed on people getting education so that they can differenciate between the reality and the appearances as it was the root cause of one's suffering.
"The very purpose of education is to reduce the gap between the apprearances and reality, he said, adding particularly, the scientific research try to reduce this gap.
