Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said he did not want to rake up political controversy over Centre's advise against his visit to quake-ravaged Nepal to oversee the relief work.
"I do not wish to see the episode through political glasses," Kumar said here after his 'Janata ke Darbar Me Mukhya Mantri' programme.
"I wanted to visit Janakpur carrying with me the good wishes of the people of Bihar after the temple there was damaged in the wake of the recent earthquake. The visit was approved by the External Affairs Minister. But the External Affairs Ministry secretary, through state chief secretary, advised me against the visit, which I obeyed," he said.
Kumar said he and his party do not want to argue against the country's international policy. "So as a disciplined citizen of the country, I obeyed the advisory and did not go to Janakpur... Had I gone there to oversee relief work it could have yielded good results no doubt. But, I abided by the advice which was given to me."
Asked if he would like to visit Nepal in the near future, Kumar said the advisory had said that it was not an opportune time for a visit.
"When they (MEA) will say I can make a visit to the Himalayan country, I will think of going there," he said.
On the question of GST, Kumar said his party JD(U) has been in favour of it from the beginning, though there were reservations on some clauses initially.
"Even when BJP-ruled states were opposing GST during UPA, we (JD-U) being partner of BJP in Bihar were in principle in favour of the GST," he added.
